Presenting Sarah T. Dubb, Writer in Residence!

Sarah T. Dubb is a writer, public librarian, parent, activist, and born-and-raised desert gal. After focusing on literature and writing in her undergraduate and graduate work, Sarah spent several years writing about eco-friendly living practices for non-profit Green America, then went on to work as Managing Editor of SQUAT Birth Journal, a monthly publication focusing on birth work and reproductive justice.

In her late 30s, while in school to become a public librarian, Sarah fell in love with romance and started writing fiction. Her debut novel, Birding with Benefits, was a 2024 NPR Books We Love pick, and has been adapted into a Hallmark Channel movie, Adventures in Love & Birding, premiering this September. Her second novel, Honey Bee Mine, will be published by Simon & Schuster in early 2026. Sarah has also self-published three novellas, and works as a freelance editor focusing specifically on story pitches and opening chapters.

The Writer in Residence program brings local authors to the Library to consult with writers of any age, experience, or genre. This program, generously funded by the Arizona State Library, is a favorite among local writers.

One-on-One consultations!

Sarah will be available for eight 30 minute one-on-one sessions per week at Quincie Douglas Library and Woods Memorial Library.

There will not be any consultations on October 9.

Please note, sessions tend to fill up quickly. There is a limit of one session per week.

Sarah will also host three workshops and a writer's meet up... learn more below!

Demystifying Traditional Publishing

Are you a writer with a finished manuscript and no clue what to do now? Or a reader eager to learn more about how a book goes from draft to finished product? Writer-in-Residence Sarah T. Dubb will walk you through the steps of traditional publishing—publishing a book with a large publisher. She’ll discuss the process of querying for literary agents, going on submission to publishers, and more. Come take a peek behind the publishing curtain!

Preserving Joy Through Your Writing Journey

Let’s be honest: a writer’s life includes a lot of rejection. Between pie-in-the-sky dreams, shifting goalposts and the pressures of social media, it’s easy to lose sight of the joy that got you writing in the first place. This workshop, intended for writers at all stages, will focus on creating healthy boundaries and expectations in order to maintain a sense of joy, discovery, and self-protection as you move through your own journey as a writer.

Writing Romance

Romance (and romance curious) writers unite! Let’s talk about how to draft and revise a romance that pulls readers along to the happy ever after. We’ll discuss the flow of romance beats that make up a story, ways to keep up pacing and conflict, and tips for getting the most out of revising to create a sharp, exciting, and chemistry-filled manuscript.

Writer's Meet-Up

Join other local writers for a casual, low-pressure writing session. Bring a computer or notebook and be ready to work! PCPL Writer-in-Residence Sarah T. Dubb will lead you in writing sprints to get your brain moving, and will be available for short one-on-one sessions to discuss your work in progress. Individual sessions at this event are first come, first serve.

Registration is required for both sessions.
